The EBA Pastoral Leadership Training Program runs on a 3-semester schedule consisting of 3 classes, one class each semester. Classes meet weekly for approximately 12 weeks. A day cohort, evening cohort, or Zoom option will be available. Each class meets for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Each class includes scripture reading, devotion, prayer, topic discussion, lecture, readings, and video presentations. Each class requires a textbook or textbooks provided by the EBA for the  student.

Class I - Introduction to Calling and Pastoral Leadership.

Class I will include discussions on calling, philosophy of pastoral ministry, and the nuts and bolts of pastoral ministry and leadership. The class will cover topics such as what is pastoral ministry, preaching (in short form), conducting baptism services, conducting the Lord’s Supper, leading a business meeting, leading a deacons meeting, doing visitation, etc. The class will follow the framework for faithful pastoral ministry under the headings of “follow-feed-lead-love”.

Class II - How to Preach a Biblical Sermon.

Class II will cover topics such as knowing our Bibles, understanding biblical interpretation following the literal, historical, grammatical and theological method. Students will learn how to go from the “study to the pulpit” in the preparation and delivery of expository sermons.

Class III - Systematic Theology in Pastoral Ministry.

Class III will give attention to a study of Systematic Theology under the normal categories such as the Doctrine of Scripture, the Doctrine of God, the Doctrine of Christ, etc. Special attention will be given to the Southern Baptist confessional statement about these doctrines using the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as a discussion guide. Attention will also be given to preaching and teaching doctrine in the local church context with a pastoral emphasis rather than a merely academic or intellectual focus.
